FOYER OF THE NOBEL INSTITUTE. A committee of five, selected by the Norwegian parliament, chooses the winner of the peace prize each year. They come together here, at the Nobel Institute, to consider the nominees and choose the laureates. For much of the year, it's a calm and quiet place. But in early December, when the Institute hosts its annual Nobel events, the offices are teeming with visitors, security personnel, and members of the international press.
